The RSI model HBIP is intended for infusing patients that are inside a hyperbaric chamber. The HBIP is a Baxter Flo-Gard 6201 that has been modified to pump up to the pressure required to infuse a patient that is inside a hyperbaric chamber at a pressure up to 3 ata (absolute pressure). The pump is placed outside of the chamber and a special tubing extension set is used to provide a penetration into the chamber.

Patients should be positioned in a location that allows continuous visual monitoring of the injection site.This allows the attendant to verify proper positioning of the needle into the vein. This is most readily done in monoplace chambers with a full clear cylindrical window and larger chambers with attendants inside. The system should not be used in chambers that hinder this visual monitoring. Chambers should also permit free communication between the attendant and patient.
